At Kinsta, we utilize SendGrid for transactional email delivery. This means outgoing emails from your WordPress site are sent through SendGrid’s service. We are constantly exploring solutions to provide a better hosting experience for our customers. To improve email delivery for Kinsta users, we will be transitioning our transactional email delivery to MailChannels in the near future.
If you’re currently using an SPF TXT record to authorize hostnames for email service on your domain, you will need to add MailChannels to ensure email deliverability. In this article, we’ll show you how to update your SPF TXT record.
If your site is set up to send emails through SendGrid via a SMTP plugin, our transition to MailChannels will not affect your SendGrid configuration.
How to Check if You Are Using an SPF TXT Record
In MyKinsta, click on “Kinsta DNS” and select your site’s domain name. In the “TYPE” column, look for a TXT record. If the value of the TXT record starts with v=spf1, it is an SPF TXT record. If you are not using Kinsta DNS, refer to your DNS dashboard.
Alternatively, you can use a service like whatsmydns.net to check if your domain has SPF TXT records. To do this, input your domain name, select the “TXT” option, and click “Search” to get a list of TXT records for your domain.
How to Update Your SPF TXT Record to Include MailChannels
If you’re a Kinsta user who previously added an SPF TXT record to authorize SendGrid, the value of your record will look something like this.
v=spf1 a mx include:sendgrid.net ~all
To add MailChannels to the SPF TXT record, you’ll need to add
As a result, the updated SPF TXT record should look like this.
v=spf1 a mx include:sendgrid.net include:relay.kinstamailservice.com ~all
If you have additional domain in your SPF TXT record, that’s okay as well. Just be sure to add
In Kinsta DNS, click on the “Edit” icon for your SPF TXT record.
In the “Content” field, replace the existing value with an updated one that includes
include:relay.kinstamailservice.com. Click Change DNS Record, to save the updated record.
If you are not using Kinsta DNS, you can update the SPF TXT record with your DNS manager. If you are unsure about how to edit DNS record, we recommend contacting your DNS provider.
